on a wednesday
encino, ca
i've caught myself in a little drawer's block.
i have been so wrapped up in caricature drawings, that when i go back to
drawing little comic deals, i dont know what to draw.
suggestions?
requests?
i am going to put up my grandpa's original artwork on my bedroom wall. a few homes ago, i covered an entire wall and it inspired the shit outta me. he was a cartoonist back in the day, used to draw caricatures of all the glitz and glamor that was hollywood. his name was Manning Hall. he wrote/illustrated a book called "Making Faces".
i grew up with this book always around, and by the time i grew to appreciate it, it was pretty withered and fragile. i went on ebay and sure enough, there was one for sale. it says $1.oo on the cover, but i guess with inflation, it went for $20. even after telling the guy he's my grandpa, no discount here. but it was well worth the money spent, it was an original pressing, in pristine condition. and now i use it as a teacher.
i never got to meet him. he passed a few years before i was born. so all i have to go by is all of his AMAZING artwork.
look it up on ebay. i just checked, there are a few copies going for far less than what i paid.
on a completely unrelated note, this happened yesterday.
happy hump day kids.

I believe I reached out to you quite some time back. Your grandfather was my great uncle. My grandfather was his brother, Sam (Sid) Hall. I have many copies of Uncle Manning's works that my mother, Janice, received from Michael - is Michael your father? You can contact me at mnprj1@gmail.com if you're interested. ~Pam
